Circular Saw Carriage Sawmills

Carriage circular saw mills consist of a fixed-position blade with a moving carriage or table. Logs are attached to the carriage with a clamping mechanism (dogs) and then advanced so the log is made to pass through the saw blade. The carriage brings the log back to the starting position, moves sideways one board thickness and advanced again. The carriage clamping mechanism usually clamps the logs on the circumference of the log (top dogs) or on the ends of the log (end dogs).

This sawmill technology has been around for a long time and its ease of use and production speed has been greatly improved with modern technology. Automatic log feeding, lifting, rotating, adjusting and fastening has reduced repetitive operator operations and physical demands. Accurate clamping and log hold rolls result in reduced sawing deviations. Automatic slab removal or automatic slab return to the operator are also options. This mill design requires a properly tensioned and sharpened blade, a large kerf (3/8") and edger/resaw equipment to further process slabs. Powered by electric, diesel/gas engines or from a tractor PTO.
