Bandsaw Sawmills

Bandsaw mills or bandmill consist of a horizontal bandsaw unit mounted on a carriage. The powered carriage passes the band saw through a stationary log. The slab is then removed by the operator or in some cases automatically by the machine. The operator then returns the saw unit to the start unit for another cut. Alternatively with a double sided band saw blade the unit can make cuts in both directions. Throughout the whole operation the log remains stationary and can either be sawn sitting on the ground or on a deck.

Probably the most widely produced type of portable sawmill, with hundreds (or more) manufacturers around the world. Popular for their extremely narrow saw kerf and increased lumber recovery rates. Also ideal for resawing slabs and cants. Many options available such as log loaders, decks, log turners, board returns, debarkers, etc. Portable units are generally limited to log diameters of 36", require edgers to process slabs and require sharp/perfectly tensioned blades. Can be powered by electric or diesel/gas engines.
