Plain Spherical Bearings
Spherical plain (friction) bearings are simple sliding type (metal on metal) bearings. Some common types include: spherical, spherical rod end, spherical angular contact and spherical thrust bearing.
- Simple bearing design consisting of a spherically ground inner ring housed in a mating outer ring without any rolling elements.
- Require constant lubrication, but can be maintenance free depending on sliding surfaces and application.
- Different sliding surfaces or coatings: steel/steel, steel/sinter bronze, steel/PTFE (Teflon), etc.
- Spherical design allows arrangements where alignment movements between shaft and housing are needed.
- Typically used in low to moderate, continuous speed applications.
- Typical applications include: log decks, log stops, kickers, hour glass rolls.
