Low Production Post and Pole Peeling
Low production fence post and pole production involves individual operator handling and peeling of each log and is an intensive task.
The traditional method of post and pole production is to choose logs (raw materials) that are a similar diameter to the desired final diameter. The bark is then removed from the log to remove places for insects to hide and to produce a uniform surface for easy handling and chemical treatment impregnation. The peeling of the bark can done either by hand with a drawknife, pushing/pulling while rotating the log over a cutterhead or feeding a machine which automatically feeds and peels the log.
