Post and Pole Dowel Mills
High production post and pole production involves operator controlled equipment to feed, peel and removed the peeled log from the work area. The post peeling is required to remove the bark and to produce a smooth uniform post surface for easy handling and chemical treatment impregnation.
A more recent method of post and pole production is to use a post dowel mill. Logs (raw material) are sorted by diameter distribution and fed through the dowel mill. The dowel mill has infeed and outfeed rolls that hold the log while passing it through a cutterhead. The cutterhead has two types of knives, one for roughly shaping the post and another for finishing. Waste from the cutting process is remove by a blower or conveyor. The process yields posts and poles that are straight with very specific uniform diameters and a smooth finish.
