Post and Pole Production
Post and poles for use as fence posts, agricultural (ag) posts, corral rails, building posts, utility poles, furniture, playground equipment, etc. The basic steps in post and pole production include:
- Raw material procurement (not shown).
- Log bucking and sizing by diameter and length (not shown).
- Log peeling by hand or rosser head peelers to produce post or pole with dimensions similar to original log or
- Log peeling and sizing with a dowel mill to produce posts or poles with exact dimensions.
- Post or pole pointing (either cone, two sided or four sided) and chamfering of other end (capping/doming).
- Post drills to create holes for doweled/tenoned poles. Cutting tenons/dowels on the end of poles to fit into holes.
- Post and pole sorting by diameter, type, length, species, etc. Post and pole stacking for treatment or shipping.
- Post or pole preservation (optional), usually with chemicals forced into the wood under pressure and/or the addition of protective sleeves.
